    AMPP 2026 Highlights & Major Milestone for Matergenics

    At the AMPP Conference 2026 in Houston, Team Matergenics demonstrated leadership, innovation, and technical excellence at the highest level. Our team presented eight practical and impactful technical papers focused on infrastructure assessment and advanced engineering solutions for aging systems. We received prestigious awards and actively contributed to two major technical committees, further reinforcing our role at the forefront of corrosion engineering.

    Our work addressed critical challenges facing aging infrastructure, including wildfire effects on T&D material performance, cathodic protection complexities, transmission and 5G communication towers, water main failures, and hydrogen embrittlement. The strong attendance at our sessions and the continued discussions well beyond presentation times clearly reflected the relevance and impact of our contributions. This conference significantly elevated the visibility and recognition of Team Matergenics across the industry.

    At the same time, we achieved a historic breakthrough.

    After years of dedicated research, innovation, and persistence, we successfully installed the world’s first hydrogen embrittlement sensor in Italy marking a true global first. This achievement goes beyond engineering; it represents a significant theoretical and practical advancement for the hydrogen-related industries.

    Our methodology for measuring and interpreting trapped hydrogen in materials is fundamentally new, arguably the first meaningful breakthrough in this field in several decades. For over a century, hydrogen-related failures have posed serious and often unpredictable risks to critical infrastructure. Today, we are shifting that paradigm from reactive investigation to proactive prediction and prevention.

    Our technology enables the quantification of critical hydrogen concentration thresholds associated with material degradation and failure. By defining clear risk zones Green (safe), Yellow (caution), and Red (critical), we provide real-time insight into material integrity. The system delivers early warnings through online monitoring platforms and automated alerts (including email notifications), allowing asset owners to act well before catastrophic failure occurs. This is a decisive step forward in safeguarding infrastructure and advancing the reliability of the emerging hydrogen economy.

    The response from clients, partners, and international colleagues at the Ampp 2026 conference was overwhelmingly positive. We engaged with experts from across North America and beyond, presented joint technical work, and received exceptional feedback. Notably, one university professor from Mexico is already incorporating our case histories into graduate-level teaching, an indication of both the technical depth and real-world relevance of our work.

    Performance of Lattice Steel Structures in Wildfires Presentation – Dallas, TX

    From September 5th to 8th, Clinton Char PE and Myself were in Dallas, Texas, where we presented a significant technical paper focused on the intersection of wildfires, materials and the electric utility industry. Our presentation garnered the interest of approximately 1,600 engineers who were in attendance. It was an exceptional conference, and one that our team at Matergenics should make a point to attend annually. The subject matter of our presentation centered on assessing and preventing (by condition assessment of aging T&D structures) material damage during wildfires, as well as how to evaluate structural integrity during and following either direct or indirect exposure to such fires and use EnviroZense sensor to quantify the material damage risks . 10-20% of wildfires are caused by the electric utility industry! This topic is especially relevant given extreme storms and the recent wildfire events in Maui, Hawaii. For more insights, please refer to the attached attached abstract.

    Matergenics Offers Assistance to Maui Recovery efforts

    Our hearts go out to the people of Maui and their families who have been affected by the wildfires. A few of our employees were born and raised in Hawai’i, and our company had the pleasure of visiting Maui in April of this year for an inspection project. We could never have imagined that the beautiful place we visited would experience such a tragedy. However, we know that the people of Hawai’i are very resilient and, with the entire world showing aloha, Lāhainā will be restored.

    As a company that has assisted many utility companies with inspections following a wildfire, we have contacted and offered our assistance to the island of Maui to aid in the recovery efforts in Lahaina.

    The islands’ unique geography makes the atmosphere and soil very corrosive for steel structures. That, in combination with Hawaii’s aging infrastructure, exacerbates corrosion, which makes the need to protect these structures even more important. In the past few moths alone several light and utility poles have fallen over. Many of which could have been prevented with corrosion mitigation.

    Galvanized Steel Transmission Structures in Northern BC, Canada

    For the last three months, Matergenics has been inspecting galvanized steel transmission structures which transfer power from a generating system an aluminum smelting plant. This critical infrastructure ensures adequate power to the plant which solidifies Canada as a world-wide leader in aluminum production. The line itself includes nearly 315 structures which traverse some of British Columbia’s most rugged terrain, which is home to diverse wildlife and vegetation. Matergenics plays a key role in assessing the current state of the structures. Our assessment procedures include visual inspection of higher elevation components, electro-chemical analysis, soil resistivity testing, galvanized thickness measurements, and hand excavation for below grade visual inspection. Concrete compressive strength tests are also used on structures with encased footings. Soil samples are then collected for in-house lab testing to determine corrosive parameters. After analyzing the documented results, the towers are then categorized and rated based on acceptable corrosion risk. The next course of action is determined, by either establishing a recurring inspection interval, or recommending expedited action by the installation of a cathodic protection system. These critical assessments reveal the health of the infrastructure and determine the remaining life, which ensures British Columbia’s continuation of aluminum smelting operations for generations to come.
